Mats Fogelvik

“Wailuaiki”

Furniture and architecture has a lot in common, with form and function in balance. On my many trips to Hana, I noticed a beautiful concrete arch bridge over Wailuaiki stream, Hana Highway. That bridge became the inspiration for my table.

The columns holding my “bridge” represent the mountain sides, monolithic forms veneered with Pommeled Imbuya Burl.  Between are the arches, laminated and veneered with Olive Ash Burl.  The underpinning holding up the “roadway” is made of Rosewood and Satinwood.

The top is veneered with curly koa, the double yellow line is Satinwood, and the edges are made of Rosewood with Holly inlay.
